Easy tips to reduce your water emissions in your home

How to Reduce Your Home's Water Consumption: 8 Easy Tips

Water is a precious resource, and in light of growing concerns about climate change and environmental degradation, it's more important than ever to conserve water wherever we can. Fortunately, there are many easy ways to reduce your water consumption at home, from simple habit changes to installing efficient technology. In this post, we'll explore 8 easy tips for reducing your home's water consumption.

1. Install a Rainwater Harvesting System

If you have a garden or lawn, you know how much water it takes to keep it green and healthy. But did you know that you can collect and recycle rainwater to use in your garden? By installing a rainwater harvesting system, such as a Jojo tank, you can collect rainwater from your roof and reuse it in your garden, saving up to 85,000 litres of water per year.

2. Cover Your Pool

If you have a pool, you know how much water it takes to keep it filled. But did you know that up to 10 litres of water can evaporate from an exposed pool per hour on a hot, dry day? By installing a pool cover, you can prevent up to 83% of water loss due to evaporation, saving up to 85,000 litres of water per year.

3. Reduce Your Bathing

While a long, luxurious bath may be tempting, it's one of the most water-intensive activities in the home. By reducing the number of baths you take and replacing them with showers, you can save up to 14,000 litres of water per year.

4. Flush Only When Necessary

Toilets use a lot of water, especially older models. By only flushing when necessary, you can save up to 13,000 litres of water per year. If it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down.

5. Do Full Loads of Laundry

Washing machines use a lot of water, so it's important to only use them when you have a full load of laundry. By waiting until you have a full load, you can save up to 9,000 litres of water per year.

6. Take Shorter Showers

While a long, hot shower can be relaxing, it also uses a lot of water. By taking shorter showers, you can save up to 6,000 litres of water per year. Try cutting your shower time by just a few minutes, and you'll notice a big difference in your water consumption.

7. Invest in a Water-Efficient Showerhead

If you can't bear the thought of taking shorter showers, you can still save water by installing a water-efficient showerhead. These showerheads use up to 10 litres less water per minute than traditional showerheads, saving up to 5,500 litres of water per year.

8. Use Less Water per Flush

If you don't like the idea of leaving your toilet unflushed, you can still save water by using less water per flush. One way to do this is to place a sealed 1-litre bottle filled with stones in your water cistern. This will reduce the amount of water used in each flush, saving up to 3,000 litres of water per year.

By following these easy tips, you can significantly reduce your home's water consumption and contribute to a more sustainable future.
